How to unlock Autobuild in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Early on in Tears of the Kingdom, Link unlocks his four main abilities, but there’s another one waiting for you which is going to make building MUCH easier. This ability is called Autobuild and allows you to quickly build vehicles from blueprints or from your building history with Ultrahand. Today I am going to walkthrough how to unlock Autobuild nice and quickly, so you can quickly and easily put together vehicles in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

To get Autobuild you need to follow the questline from Robbie and Josha in Lookout Landing. First of all, you need to complete the ‘Camera work in the depths’ quest, which gives you the ability to take photos with the Pura Pad, plus you’ll get some valuable knowledge about how to create Light in the Depths, so you can explore.

After you have completed ‘Camera work in the depths’ quest you’ll want to speak to Robbie and Josha and pick up the quest ‘A Mystery in the Depths’. If Josha doesn’t give this to you straight away, you may need to complete at least one of the Regional Phenomena, which are marked at the 4 corners of the map. Once you have picked up the quest ‘A Mystery in the Depths’ you are well on your way to get Autobuild.

A Mystery in the Depths quest guide

Once you have the quest, head down into the depths by going down the chasm in Central Hyrule Depths. Once you jump down into the Depths then head for Iayusus Lightroot and from there go south to Nihcayam Lightroot. You are looking for the Great Abandoned Central Mine, which you can get to by following the statues. Each statue is pointing in a direction, and you want to follow the statues until you reach the mine. If you get lost you can find the mine at the coordinates -0781, -1886, -0523.

If you are having trouble following the statues then go to Nihcayam Lightroot, continue south through the Grove of Time, and after that you’ll find a huge temple-like structure with some researchers.

Once you speak to the researchers you’ll be directed towards a Steward Construct, and they will give you the Autobuild ability. Now you have the ability, the researchers will stare at you in disbelief, before asking you to demonstarte your new ability on some vehicles nearby. First of all you have to fix a wheel using Ultrahand, then you have to construct a vehicle by using your history. Follow the prompts on screen and it should be straight forward.

When you have built the vehicle with Autobuild, Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan will appear and attack you. He rides around on a vehicle, and you want to knock him off, either with some arrows, or you can use Recall when he throws something at you. When he’s knocked off the car, go and whack him until you drain his energy.

Once you have defeated Master Kohga he’ll run off, saying he’s going to Southwestern Abandoned mine and not to follow him. You’ll then get a Huge Crystallized Charge as a reward. After, speak to the Zonai Constructs and they will give you a blueprint for a flying machine, which you can test on parts nearby and use them to fly to the next Lightroot.

Now you have completed the part of the quest in the depths, make your way back to Lookout Landing and speak to Josha once again. You’ll then be able to fix Robbie’s baloon, which means he can return to Hateno Village. If you follow him there you’ll get more upgrades for the Pura Pad, but more on that another day.
