There are a few ways to get Gloom Resistance in Tears of the Kingdom, but far and away the most stylish way is to get The Depths Amor. This quest takes you all over the Depths to meet curious characters called Bargainer Statues. Today I’m going to walk through how to find the Bargainer Statues, plus how to get the Depths Armor in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
Gloom Resistance is very useful in Tears of the Kingdom; if you want to explore the Depths or fight Phantom Ganon, you’ll likely need a little extra Gloom Resistance. There are 3 pieces of Depths armor including Tunic of the Depths, the Gaiters of the Depths, and the Hood of the Depths. Once you have all the armor you can upgrade at the Great Fairy Fountains for a set bonus for even more Gloom Resistance.
How to get The Depths Armor
Getting the Depths armor is a little different to other armor sets. This time you have to find Bargainer Statues in Hyrule, and more specifically most of them are found deep in the Depths. You will not only need to find the statues, but you’ll need poes to trade with the statues for the armor. You’ll have to find two statues to buy the Tunic of the Depths (150 poes), four statues for the Gaiters of the Depths (200 poes), and six statues for the Hood of the Depths (300 poes). In total, you’ll need 650 poes, and I would go out hunting for poes before you do anything else.
How to get Poes
Poes do appear to spawn in set locations in Tears of the Kingdom, and often you can find a collection of them when you jump down chasms. While exploring the Depths you can see Poes in the distance given they glow. Large Poes will give you 5 and Grand Poes will give you 20, so if you can find those, all the better. You can often find Poes by Mines, and other signifciant locations in the Depths. The best way I have found for farming is location Chasms on the surface of Hyrule and then jump down the hole and land safely using the paraglider, then collect the poes which you should see on the floor.
Bargainer Statue Rewards
As well as the Depths Armor the Bargainer Statues also sell the Dark Armor.
- Dark Tunic (150 poes)
- Tunic of the Depths (150 poes)
- Dark Trousers (200 poes)
- Gaiters of the Depths (200 poes)
- Dark Hood (300 poes)
- Hood of the Depths (300 poes)
- Tunic of Memories (400 poes)
While the Dark Armor looks very cool, and you can turn into Dark Link, the Dark Armor set is definitely not as functionally useful as the Depths Armor, so I would prioritise the Depths Armor. They also sell other armor pieces and weapons you’ve picked up.
Bargainer Statue Locations
Bargainer Statues are massive, although most of them are buried up to their necks, but we do meet a couple of them which are fully out in the open.
Lookout Landing Bargainer Statue
The first Bargainer Statue can be found in Lookout Landing, and it’s right next to where you first meet Robbie and Josha. The Statue will ask you to pay to get the location of it’s “brethren”, although there is no need to do that, I’ll give you the information for free, and you can keep your valuable Poes.
Plains Bargainer Statue
For this one you want to go into the Depths. The closest Lightroot is Stakijat Lightroot and the closest Depths entrance is the Hyrule Field Chasm, near the Jiosin Shrine. Go ahead of the Lightroot and then you’ll easily be able to reach the Bargainer Statue.
Wellspring of Wisdom Bargainer Statue
The closest Lightroot is Usukaz Lightroot and the closest chasm is Naydra Snowfield Chasm, near Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower. To get to this one you have to go down quite far, but there’s a little platform to pray in front of it’s face.
Wellspring of Power
The closest lightroot is Akinatanis Lightroot and the closest chasm is East Akkala Plains Chasm, near Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower. The statue you are looking for is up on a cliff side, overlooking the water.
Wellspring of Courage
The closest lightroot is Muokuij Lightroot and the closest Depths entrance is Tobio’s Hollow Chasm, which you need to do some of the “Guidance of Ages Past” quest to access. This statue is slightly different from the previous ones, as much of it is coming up out of the ground, so you’ll have to climb.
Cliffs Bargainer Statue
The closest lightroot is Yisuayam Lightroot and the closest Depths entrance is Drenan Highlands Tower, to the west of the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower. This time the full Bargainer Statue is coming up out of the ground so you can climb or ascend up it’s body to get to the head.
Great Abandoned Central Mine Bargainer Statue
This Bargainer Statue is different from the rest. You have to complete a side adventure called “A Call from the Depths”, where you have to break some rocks on the Great Plateau. When you complete that quest, the Bargainer Statue will allow you to buy items from it, plus you’ll get another reward too. You don’t actually have to go to this one to get the Depths armor, but the option is there if you want to find all the Bargainer Statues
Let me know in the comments what you think of the Depths Armor and let me know yout favourite armor in Tears of the Kingdom.
