23 Things I wish I knew in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom

Zelda Echoes of Wisdom is here and we’re all enjoying our adventures through Hyrule with the Princess. However, there are a whole bunch of tips and tricks I wish I knew before I started the game, today I’m going to dive into those so you can be best prepared for Zelda Echoes of Wisdom.

Without further delay lets dive into the things I wish I knew before I started in Zelda Echoes of Wisdom.

Camera controls – Press in the right stick for a top-down view so you can see vertically right now. You can also move the right stick to move the camera around and find hidden chests or items and increase Zelda’s view of the local environment.

Bind in combat – You can make combat much easier by combining with Bind. Hold something in place, get out a combat focused Echo and this turns the game into easy-mode. It almost seems unfair.

Pots – Pots are useful for hiding, you can jump in them. You can also comically move around while you are inside a pot, plus you can jump out of pots next to a ledge and you’ll get some additional height.

Higher jump – Use sword fighter mode quickly for a higher jump. Swap in and out of Swordfighter mode to get access to a Link Style jump, and that will help you get to higher ground fast.

Healing – Beds are great for building bridges and other structures, but beds are also used for free healing. It can be pretty slow, so find more comfy beds to increase the speed of health regen. You find the first bed on your escape from Hyrule Castle Jail, and then a comfy upgrade in Gerudo Town.

Upgrade your abilities – You can upgrdae your abilities in Lueberry’s Hut just south of Castle Town. Here you can exchange power crystals to upgrade your sword fighter form. You learn new abilities all the time in the game, so make sure you are checking back in with Lueberry and uograding those abilities on the regular.

Upgrade Accessories – You can find the Great Fairy in Lake Hylia and she helps with increasing accessory slots and also quick refills for fairies, which help you our when you die. It’s well worth checking back in on the Great Fairy.

Flying enemies – There are various enemies that try to dive on your head. Hold a fire echo on your head and the enemies trying to attack you from above will hurt themselves.

Crows – Crows are useful little buddies in Echoes of Wisdom. Find them on the way to Gerudo Desert. They not only attack enemies, but they can also find loads of rupees. You can create your own little crow army to take on enemies, plus help you get rich quick.

Glider – You can use any flying echo as a glider and help you jump off high places. For example, get out a crow echo, pick it up and jump off a ledge and gently float down to the floor.

Spinning – Spinning is faster than walking and it’s also functional too. You can deflect small projectiles plus you can outrun enemies. Also, you don’t burn stamina, so theres no reason not to spin your way around Hyrule.

Make smoothies – Find your Business Scrub friends and stock up on smoothies. You can find one early in the game near the Gerudo Oasis. Try different ingredients for different effects and try out loads of different recipes. Milk and Salt sounds horrible, but it’s a good starter smoothie because it refills all Sword FIghter energy plus some hearts too.

Early-game smoothie – Go to the Gerudo Desert Oasis and play the Mango mini-game where you have to farm mangos. These are gret for blending with other ingredients

Avoid ropes – The snakes that come out of the grass can be ananoying, but you can jump over them, plus you can use the audio cues to time your jumps.

Target Enemies – You can target enemies with ZL and it makes combat much easier. You can also use targeting to direct your echoes at enemies.

Remove Enemy Shields – Some enemies have shields and they can be removed by using the bind ability. We are taught this with the early-game battle against Link, but this tactic can also be used on other enemies too.

Flying Tiles Ignore Wind – Flying tiles are one of the best early-game echoes (you can find them in Gerudo Desert). There are a lot of Wind-based puzzles in the game, and you can use the tiles to bypass the wind. Make sure to get the flying tiles early, as they can be used as a weapon, used to distract enemies and more.

Echo damage – Your own echoes can’t hurt you, so use them as much as possible. The only exception are the fire echoes and you set the landscape on fire, then they can indirectly hurt you, so be careful with fire.

Filter your echoes – Pretty quickly you’ll get a lot of echoes, but you can filter then for quick access. Press Y and you’ll be able to sort them by type, last used, most used, last learned and cost. Most used is probably the most useful in my opinion.

Multiple echoes can be better than one – Sometimes it’s tempting to get our your most powerful echo, however, overwhelming enemies with many weaker ones can be better than one single powerful one.

Activate all waypoints – This is the fast-travel system in Echoes of Wisdom, and you can find glowing yellow statues all around. This is going to make it easier and faster to travel plus easier to revisit old locations later, especially when you are hunting for heart pieces or completing side quests.

Echo costs – Echoes are great, but they have a variety of costs. You can only have a certain number of echoes at any one time. The cost is indicated as a number of triangles. Tri only has a total number, but you do upgrade this number as you play the game. Tri’s tail is a good indication of your total budget, then each echo has a cost. Use these things to work out how many echoes you can have. You can also sort your echoes by cost to make things easier.

Swordfighter form limit – Save Swordfighter form for tougher enemies. You can only use sword fighter form for a short period of time, as you have to collect energy to refill that bar. It’s not worth using sword fighter form on smaller enemies.
